    of contentious landscapes Their investigations have taken them to diverse terrains including the Lower Mississippi New York Bangalore Mumbai Jerusalem Varanasi the Himalayas and most recently the Sundarbans An underlying thread in Mathur s work is a concern for how water is visualized and engaged in ways that lead to conditions of its excess and scarcity but also the opportunities that its fluidity offers for new visualizations of terrain design imagination and design practice In April 2011 and 2012 she conceived and curated an international symposium titled In the Terrain of Water at PennDesign She is author with Dilip da Cunha of Mississippi Floods Designing a Shifting Landscape Yale University Press 2001 Deccan Traverses The Making of Bangalore s Terrain Rupa Co 2006 and Soak Mumbai in an Estuary National Gallery of Modern Art Rupa Co 2009 Most recently they have co edited a book entitled Design in the Terrain of Water Applied Research Design Publishing San Francisco 2014 Mathur and da Cunha are currently leading a PennDesign team for a yearlong project coordinated by Professor Guy Nordenson of Princeton University and funded by the Rockefeller Foundation titled Structures of Coastal Resilience SCR with a focus on Norfolk and the

    Search Work People Events Blog Resources Courses About Apply Share Share via Email Landscape Architecture Cora L Olgyay Adjunct Associate Professor olgyay design upenn edu Biography M L A University of Pennsylvania 1985 B A University of Pennsylvania 1975 Management Diploma The Wharton School 1979 Cora Olgyay was appointed as an adjunct faculty member in 1997 and has taught in the workshop sequence and design studios since 1994 She is a member of the ASLA and a registered landscape architect For several years she worked with the Olin Partnership on a wide range of projects including the National Gallery Sculpture Garden in Washington D C Hancock Park in Los Angeles Wagner Park in New York City and Canary Wharf in London Her current independent practice focuses on the interface of technology and design and the integration of grading and planting issues Ongoing projects for non profit organizations including Welkinweir and Ralston Center include landscape master plans and the long term implementation of those designs Her work with moderate size residential designs provides the opportunity to explore new site specific approaches in stormwater management and planting design She frequently serves as a consultant to landscape architects engineers and architects on sustainable

    Courses About Apply Share Share via Email Landscape Architecture Laurie D Olin Professor of Practice lolin theolinstudio com http www theolinstudio com Biography B Arch University of Washington 1961 Laurie D Olin is practice professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania where he has taught for thirty years and former chair of the Department of Landscape Architecture at Harvard University Olin was chosen to serve as the landscape architect for the Barnes Foundation s new art education center located on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia He co authored the book OLIN Placemaking published by Monacelli Press which features a selection of the OLIN studio s most celebrated landscape architecture urban design and planning projects He also authored an essay titled More Than Just Wriggling Your Wrist for the book Drawing Thinking Confronting an Electronic Age published by Routledge His redesign of the Washington Monument grounds received the 2008 Design Honor Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects Olin and his five partners received the 2008 Landscape Design Award from the Smithsonian s Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum They were honored for their excellence and innovation in landscape design and dedication to sustainability Featured Media Professor Olin
