    What are the deadlines Please see the Financial Information page and Financial Information section of our FAQ page Do participants of the ESAP program receive college credit Yes participants who successfully complete ESAP receive 1 Penn credit unit usually the equivalent of 2 3 credit class What will a typical weekday be like for my student Schedules vary from course to course but students will typically spend mornings attending lecture and afternoons working in the lab or vice versa for a total of 40 hours of in class and lab time Industry site visits as well as tours of facilities and an admissions workshop are all scheduled into the program to round out the student experience Please see the specific course pages for more detailed information about the academic components of ESAP Are parents allowed to visit the students during the program Parents are welcome to visit students when on campus However please bear in mind that students participating in ESAP are generally in class or lab during the weekday and attend off campus program activities on weekends Please write a letter to esap seas upenn edu and inform us of your day and time of arrival as well as your relationship to the student You will need to register at the dorm office and with campus security when you arrive Only parents and relatives may visit the dorm rooms with the student Are students allowed to leave the campus during evenings and weekends Students are not permitted off campus for non program activities ESAP is a rigorous academic program with a significant amount of group activities and projects in the evenings and on weekends and to be fair to group members all ESAP participants agree to remain on campus and available to take equal part Additionally for security reasons please do not put us in a difficult position by sending siblings relatives or friends to take students off campus What security measures will be taken for student safety Where will students live eat attend classes Yes ESAP students are housed in one of the high rises on Penn s 285 acre urban campus All entrances are monitored 24 7 by Penn Public Safety and students must swipe their ID and enter a secure private key code to enter the buildings Residential Teaching Assistants RTAs supervised by a full time Residential Director in the dorms and instructors in the classrooms are current Penn undergraduates who live in the dorms with the students and serve as TAs in the classrooms Meals are provided at either 1920s Commons or Houston Market and all classes take place in the Engineering Quad Do you provide health insurance coverage during the program No ESAP does not provide health insurance coverage Students and their families are responsible for acquiring appropriate health care coverage for the duration of the 3 week program I understand there is a Graduation Ceremony at the conclusion of the program Can family attend Each ESAP participant may bring up to 2 guests

    Holleran Sean P Holleran received his Ph D in Chemical Engineering in 2007 from the University of Michigan His undergraduate degree also in Chemical Engineering was awarded by Cornell University in 1999 Dr Holleran s focus at Penn is on undergraduate engineering education curriculum development freshmen advising outreach and enrichment activities He has taught undergraduate courses in Material Balances Thermodynamics Fluid Mechanics Senior Operations Lab and Senior Design Dr Holleran received the 2005 College of Engineering Distinguished Leadership Award from the University of Michigan and several other teaching awards while at Michigan Instructor Miriam Wattenbarger Miriam Wattenbarger is a lecturer in the chemical and biomolecular engineering department at the University of Pennsylvania She teaches a biotechnology and biochemical engineering lecture and lab CBE course for juniors a biotechnology lab course for Master s students and a graduate CBE drug delivery course She also enjoys working with several different STEM outreach programs including GEMS MARBLES and PAGES Professor Wattenbarger has a B S in chemical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin a M S and Ph D in chemical and biochemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and post doctoral experience at the University of Minnesota Instructor Robert Bucki

    Since July 2002 he has been at the University of Pennsylvania Philadelphia PA where he is currently a Professor of Electrical and Systems Engineering with a secondary appointment in Computer Information Science and Operations and Information Management He is the founding co director of the Singh Program in Market and Social Systems Engineering an elite new undergraduate degree program at Penn that blends operations research economics and computer science with systems theory He is a recipient of an NSF Career award an ONR Young Investigator award the O Hugo Schuck Best Paper award of the American Automatic Control Council and the George S Axelby Outstanding Paper Award of the IEEE Control Systems Society His students have been recipients and finalists of best student paper awards in the American Control Conference and IEEE Conference on Decision and Control His research is broadly in the interface of control theory and network science specifically analysis design and optimization of networked dynamical systems with applications to sensor networks multi robot formation control opinion aggregation social learning and other collective phenomena Instructor Professor Victor M Preciado Victor M Preciado is the Raj and Neera Singh Assistant Professor of Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University

    in Computer Science in 1975 both from the University of Toronto He was the Cecilia Fitler Moore Department Chair of Computer and Information Science from 1990 94 He directs the SIG Center for Computer Graphics and the Center for Human Modeling and Simulation at Penn Among the Center s achievements are the human modeling software system Jack that was the basis for a spin off company in 1996 the software is now marketed by Siemens He is the Director of the BSE in Digital Media Design undergraduate program and the Faculty Executive Director of the Masters in Computer Graphics and Game Technology program at Penn During 2001 2005 he was also the Associate Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science Instructor Mark van Langeveld Mark Christensen van Langeveld received his B S degree from Brigham Young University in 1985 his M A in Design at the University of California Los Angeles in 1990 his M B A from Northwestern University in 1999 his M S E in Computer Graphics and Game Technology at the University of Pennsylvania in 2005 and his Ph D in Computing at the University of Utah in 2009 His industry experience included designing and
