    on all three floors of the Gulf Coast Library beginning February 3rd with a reception honoring the artist scheduled for February 19 2015 in the lobby 4 6 p m Guests will be able to meet Jennings and purchase some of the works on display This collection is oil on canvas and includes landscapes of France cityscapes of New Orleans and scenes from Mississippi as well as some still life Jennings paintings express an awareness of the movement of the lines in the painting in the placement of color and reflection of light Her goal is to allow one to see the sacred in the ordinary For many years she studied and taught ballet Dance also led her to study French the language of ballet After receiving a Masters of Arts in French Jennings taught French and continued to travel and study in France While teaching French she designed simple art projects to enhance teaching the language This move led her to enroll in oil painting classes attend art workshops and retreats which focused on art and spirituality In Joy s words Art to me is a dance on canvas Recent exhibits include displays at Oddfellow s Gallery in Hattiesburg

    logged its 200 000th download With new projects in the works for 2015 the site shows no signs of slowing down Aquila reached its 100 000th download in March of 2014 more than two years from the date Aquila came online In less than nine months that download total has already doubled Beginning in January a monthly newsletter will be published to keep Aquila users and members of the campus community current on the newest uploads and other news pertaining to the site Faculty staff and students are invited to subscribe to the newsletter by visiting http mailman usm edu mailman listinfo Aquila Recent additions to Aquila include the December 2014 Master s theses which may be browsed as a collection by department or by title or topic The fall 2014 issue of SLIS Connecting is also now available This issue features articles on the International Tracing Service primers in the de Grummond collection and library websites The Aquila Digital Community is an open access digital repository containing all of the scholarly works created by Southern Miss faculty staff and students Aquila also hosts digital journals and newsletters published by the University as well as information and resources from events

    Wells will be in attendance at the reception for a book signing and selected pieces of her artwork will be available for purchase Having Rosemary Wells here in Hattiesburg provides us with the opportunity to have a high caliber exhibition Wells work has been read and loved by children all over the world We are also fortunate to have a gallery like Oddfellows in which to present the work of this noted artist People attending this event will see a first class exhibit said Ellen Ruffin curator of the de Grummond Children s Literature Collection During a recent visit to Hattiesburg Wells donated illustrations from her personal collection to the de Grummond Collection Wells has won many awards for her work including the Golden Kite Award for Forest of Dreams an International Reading Association Children s Choices citation for Max s Chocolate Chicken Edgar Allan Poe Special Award Mystery Writers of America 1981 for When No One Was Looking many of her books have been named among the best books of the year by School Library Journal or received American Library Association Notable Book citations or American Bookseller Pick of the Lists citations In 2002 Wells received The University of Southern Mississippi Medallion an award for distinguished service in the field of children s literature Unique among literary prizes the medallion is awarded for an individual s total body of work rather than for one particular work Since the first award at the Second Annual Children s Book Festival the Southern Miss Medallion has been presented to an outstanding array of children s authors and illustrators Wells career as an author and illustrator spans more than 40 years and 120 books She has given readers such unforgettable characters as Max and Ruby Noisy Nora and Yoko She also gave Mother
