    in the Department of Acute and Continuing Care recently completed her inspector and accreditation training for the National Association of Medical Examiners NAME in Dallas This achievement is significant because for the first time the inspection team was composed of two board certified forensic pathologists and a forensic nurse death investigator Drake Based on her expertise Drake has been asked to participate in the recently created Scientific Working Group of Medicolegal Death Investigation SWGMDI on the federal level The final committee appointment is pending I m excited and honored to be given the opportunity to collaborate with an exceptional group of inter professionals responsible for promoting excellence in medicolegal death investigations Drake said I certainly believe my involvement with the research SWGMDI committee will aid in enhancing my personal research interests because the committee s aims are to prioritize research interests influence grant opportunities and impact policy Last April she participated in the inspection of Dallas County s Institute of Forensic Sciences which includes the Medical Examiners Office and the Crime Investigation Lab Drake s research interests encompass organization of system services which includes role delineation of the various professionals entering medicolegal death investigation abuse and neglect across the lifespan

    on ethical professional behavior and a commitment to instilling ethical behavior in students A commissioned portrait of Judy Fred was unveiled to commemorate the endowed professorship It now is prominently displayed on the fourth floor of the School of Nursing building Dr Herbert L Fred a clinical professor of internal medicine at the UTHealth Medical School has more than a half century of bedside teaching and is the recipient of many awards and honors for his advancement of medical education He established the professorship last year to honor his wife Judy for her 30 year career in nursing and her work as a member of the nursing school s PARTNERS support organization Fred described his wife as a modern Florence Nightingale and said he decided on endowing a nursing professorship to honor her in a significant and lasting way I can t tell you how unusual and gratifying it was that Dr Fred approached us not the other way around and he simply handed us a check said UTHealth School of Nursing at Houston Dean Patricia L Starck D S N This is a wonderful way to support the School of Nursing for decades and generations into the future Guests
