    the Texas Gulf Coast Graduate Nurse Education GNE demonstration project Memorial Hermann Hospital in collaboration with four area schools of nursing was selected last July by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid as one of five demonstration projects in the country to provide clinical education to increase the number of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses APRN graduates The four nursing schools will handle the didactic component while Memorial Hermann provides clinical training to produce 400 additional nurse practitioners nurse anesthetists nurse midwives and clinical nurse specialists over the next four years with 200 million in federal funding provided by the Affordable Care Act of 2010 Dr Hanks will be working closely with Memorial Hermann UTMB TWU and PVAMU to meet the goals of the project and participate in the evaluation of this important legislation Dean Starck said Hanks also is co director of the school s new Accelerated FNP DNP Program along with Eileen R Giardino Ph D R N in the Department of Family Health Hanks joined the UTHealth School of Nursing faculty in 2010 after teaching in the School of Nursing of The University of Texas at Arlington and providing primary health care in a medically underserved area of
