    are health care information technology and education Obviously nursing education fits right in with those The select U S group was led by Ira C Magaziner co founder and now vice chairman and CEO of the Clinton Health Access Initiative After meeting Rwanda s president Magaziner told reporters The need is also to develop a base of highly educated people that can lead to the creation of research in health industries and the health economy of Rwanda that is what we are working on with the leadership of the Ministry of Health The Rwanda government is implementing a long term plan to create a high quality sustainable healthcare system for its people The Rwanda Health Education Consortium made up of leading U S medical nursing and health management universities will recruit a faculty They will work with Rwandan authorities in developing a high quality health education system that can educate an increased number of Rwandan healthcare providers and managers who meet world class standards This effort will be by far the largest cooperative global health effort ever undertaken between universities in the developed and developing world Magaziner told the delegation in a May 3 letter If successful this will become a model for other collaborations throughout Africa and in other developing economies U S professors will live and teach in Rwanda for at least one academic year 10 months and advise Rwandan colleagues on how to organize medical and nursing education and the health care system in Rwanda Our job was to develop a plan in conjunction with the Rwandan Minister of Health and her people that is acceptable to all said Mackey who holds the PARTNERS Endowed Professorship in Nursing Once accomplished the negotiations at the governmental level will start and then contracts will be issued All of the
