    Health Science Center at Houston UTHealth School of Nursing has been named the first recipient of the PARTNERS Faculty Research Scholar Fund Ross who joined the School of Nursing s faculty in 1988 says funds received through this endowment over the next three years will help advance her research which focuses on interventions to relieve stress in caregivers who are raising their grandchildren My heartfelt thanks to the PARTNERS Board for making this award possible said Ross I m very committed to my research on custodial grandparenting and will work diligently toward my goal of an intervention that will relieve stress in these caregivers said Ross PARTNERS organized in 1994 stands for Promoting Advancement Resources to Nursing Education Research and Students The organization raises funds through memberships and events to provide nursing scholarships and faculty research grants at the UTHealth School of Nursing I m very pleased that PARTNERS has made this research endowment available to accelerate faculty research said School of Nursing Dean Patricia L Starck D S N R N Dr Ross truly is a rising star and already a well known researcher in the fields of gerontology and community health Jade Waddy Office of Advancement In this

    by their peers and co workers as exemplary registered nurses in the Houston area will be held at 7 p m Nov 18 at the Hilton University of Houston Hotel I m very proud that this honor has come to Dr Ross because she is an outstanding faculty member and expert in the areas of gerontology and community health said UTHealth School of Nursing Dean Patricia L Starck DSN RN As a researcher she is especially well known for her work on grandparenting and she is always eager to share her knowledge with students her peers and the community Ross who earned a Doctor of Public Health degree from The University of Texas School of Public Health also received a Master of Science in Nursing from the UTHealth School of Nursing She joined the nursing school s faculty in 1988 Ross holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from McNeese State University in Lake Charles La and is board certified as a Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist G CNS Her research interests include stress and coping in grandparents who are raising their grandchildren She has published and presented on this topic as well as other aspects of senior health and aging

    in the Department of Family Health This new PARTNERS professorship advances the school s commitment to retaining and rewarding outstanding faculty members said UTHealth School of Nursing at Houston Dean Patricia L Starck D S N Cathy Rozmus has amassed an impressive record in research and publication as well as exemplifying excellence in nursing education administration Rozmus joined the nursing school s faculty in August 2007 Her research interests are health behavior decision making and high risk behaviors in adolescents She previously served as dean of the School of Nursing and as vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus Ga While she was at Georgia Southwestern she directed projects underwritten by the U S Department of Education s Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education FIPSE and by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Rozmus received her D S N degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham UAB School of Nursing in Maternal Child Nursing and Education Administration Her M S N degree in Parent Child Nursing is from Vanderbilt University and she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing B S N at West Virginia University PARTNERS is proud to have had the opportunity to establish this professorship for the School of Nursing said Leslie Bowlin Bennett who chaired the organization when the funds were raised and the new professorship created The most pressing need in the coming years will be to have the ability to retain and recruit outstanding faculty at UT School of Nursing in doing so we are thrilled that Cathy Rozmus has been appointed as the first holder The professorship is supported by an endowment established last July by the PARTNERS support organization Its purpose is to help sustain the educational and research needs
