    30 years of educational and administrative responsibilities combined with nearly 45 years of nursing experience From June 2011 May 2013 Dean Starck served as UTHealth s Senior Vice President for Community Affairs where she led the Office of Advancement to expand public awareness of UTHealth and cultivate philanthropic support Dean Starck received her doctorate from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1979 and her master s of nursing from Emory University in Atlanta Ga Dean Starck continually enhances her education in nursing executive management and leadership She is a 1997 graduate of the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University She is a long standing board member of the Viktor Frankl Institute for Logotherapy and locally is a member of the Yates Children Memorial Foundation at the Mental Health Association She is also on the Advisory Council of the Holocaust Museum Houston for its upcoming series on Medical Ethics Dean Starck has been honored as a lifetime member of the Alumni Association The University of Texas School of Nursing at Houston Leadership Texas and as a Fellow American Academy of Nursing She holds the John P McGovern M D Distinguished Professorship in Nursing She and Dr McGovern published an award winning book The Invisible Dimension of Illness Human Suffering Starck also has been active at the state and national levels in solving the nursing shortage crisis and promoting ideas for health care reform She was appointed by Texas Gov Rick Perry to serve on the Statewide Health Coordinating Council and serves as co chair of the Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Study Advisory Committee In 2012 Dr Starck was inducted into The University of Texas Academy of Health Science Education composed of outstanding educators at health institutions of the UT System A colleague from the Medical School and his

    of educated professionals in many branches of the field Listen to Houston Radio Station KUHF s story about the new building real player audio The official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new building is set for Friday June 4 with a donor recognition event to follow Saturday June 5 It is wonderful to contemplate being located in a building specifically designed to meet the needs of the UT School of Nursing said Dean Patricia L Starck D S N The new facilities will have the latest in audiovisual technologies to enable flexibility in the teaching and learning process It will make it possible to design innovative ways to address the nursing shortage Since 1996 the UT School of Nursing has doubled its undergraduate enrollment and now graduates more than 120 new nurses and more than 110 nurses with graduate degrees each year This year the school received more than 1 300 applications for just 130 spots in the entering class More than 700 students are currently enrolled in the school instructed by almost 100 full and part time faculty members Over the last three years with the help of our community partners the school has expanded its enrollment of entry
