    on the link and choose save link as Choose to download the form to your desktop Next visit your desktop and open the PDF from that location Faculty and Instructional Academic Staff Professional Development FY17 Round 3 Funding pending available monies after Round 2 Applications accepted for Round 3 funding if travel occurs between March 1 2017 and June 30 2017 View Application Due February 3 2017 NOTE This form does not properly display in all web browsers Right mouse click on the link and choose save link as Choose to download the form to your desktop Next visit your desktop and open the PDF from that location Academic Staff Professional Development Grants The following guidelines describe the local procedures and standards for the University of Wisconsin System Academic Staff Professional Development Program at UW River Falls Objectives The UW System Academic Staff Professional Development Program has been established to facilitate individual professional development that contributes to the needs of the institution The program has three main objectives Individual Professional Development Providing an opportunity for academic staff to enhance their effectiveness in meeting changing needs and roles in higher education Improved Program Quality Contributing to improving program vitality during a period of anticipated resource constraints and rapidly changing administrative and educational needs Improved Institutional Effectiveness Enhancing and refining those abilities most directly related to the mission and goals of UW River Falls Criteria Proposals will be evaluated according to the following guidelines The focus of activities should be on improving effectiveness on staff in their current roles rather than in enhancing abilities that allow the staff member to compete for a more responsible position The program does not provide leave for formal study leading to a degree Priority will be given to projects that impact groups of academic staff members rather than individuals For example higher priority would be given to a project that would offer an on campus workshop for a group of academic staff members than to be a project that would offer an on campus workshop for a group of academic staff members than to a project that would provide for off campus conference attendance for one staff member Consideration will be given to the cost effectiveness of the project No more than one proposal from an individual will be accepted during a fiscal year Projects that support the diversity may be given priority consideration Other issues of current concern may be identified and specified in the call for proposals Other considerations of the committee will be To what extent does the plan address a clearly identified individual professional or program quality need Is the plan realistic Are the details well described Salaries cannot be included nor can be unspecified miscellaneous expenses be listed under budget Review Committee The proposals will be reviewed by the Academic Staff Professional Development Committee of the Faculty and Academic Staff Development Board Procedures The committee will divide proposals into those that are recommended for funding and those that are not They

    assistant professor associate professor full professor associate lecturer lecturer senior lecturer and distinguished lecturer First consideration is quality of the proposal and second consideration will be based on seniority Programmatic and institutional need goal considerations may override this preference however Proposals may contain requests to pay for fees and tuition for courses at accredited institutions that the faculty member takes as part of the retraining renewal program A faculty member may also request support to pay for registration fees participation fees etc at professional workshops seminars institutes etc Proposals may request funds to buy course related books and supplies Supplies and equipment funds may be requested if necessary for the successful completion of the project Ordinarily capital equipment purchases and purchase of equipment that should be supported by the department are not eligible for funding under this program Funds for travel may be requested if it can be demonstrated that such travel is critical to the retraining renewal project If the faculty member is within commuting distance a reasonable amount to cover commuting expenses may be requested If the location of the program is beyond commuting distance a faculty member may request one round trip to the location during the period of the project Other trips must be paid for by the participant If the retraining renewal program takes place at a location beyond commuting distance from the faculty member s home living expenses may be requested However institutional policies may limit the amount granted if the faculty member is also receiving a salary If salary is requested fringe benefits and taxes will be deducted from the dispersed amount Support for travel to and attendance at professional meetings may be requested if it can be shown that such participation is a critical part of the individual s retraining renewal program Retraining renewal funds ordinarily will not be used in place of institutional travel money for attendance at professional meetings Faculty retraining renewal funds will not be used to support faculty proposals whose primary object is to allow an individual to complete a terminal degree Proposals linked with sabbatical leaves of absence will not be supported Criteria Proposals will be evaluated on a competitive basis by the Teaching Committee of the Faculty Academic Staff Development Board The following criteria will be used by the selection committee to determine funding Is the institutional goal which the proposal addresses clearly stated Does the proposed program clearly address the identified goal Does the proposal answer the question of who will do what when where why how and at what cost Are effective evaluative criteria built into the proposal What institutional fiscal constraints exist Will the proposal lead to an enhancement of individual and institutional resources How does the quality of the proposal being evaluated compare to that of the others under consideration Is the proposed activity to be conducted within the time frame of the funding period Review Committee All proposals will be evaluated by the Teaching Committee of the Faculty Academic Staff Development

    whatever reason the leave period shall be excluded in determining the faculty member s years of full time service A sabbatical will NOT be awarded to a faculty member who does not plan to return to UWRF for at least one academic year of service after the completion of the sabbatical Proposal Requirements Please complete the attached Applicant Information form and include an attachment of your CV Conditions The following conditions govern the faculty sabbatical program In the administration of faculty sabbaticals creditable service for retirement purposes will very depending on the length of the sabbatical and level of compensation A faculty member considering a sabbatical leave request should consult with the institutional fringe benefit coordinator prior to submitting a formal request A faculty member may receive supplementary grants or other awards while on sabbatical leave but such compensation when combined with the amount of institutional compensation shall not exceed the full compensation normally received from the UW System for that period Such additional grants or awards may be received by a faculty member only if the conditions for accepting the additional resources do not interfere with the stated purpose of a faculty member s sabbatical program A faculty member may seek additional grants specifically for travel or unusual living expenses incident to the sabbatical program without restriction by the full compensation maximum see condition 2 A faculty member may not use the sabbatical period to accept other paid employment during the period of the leave unless stipulated as a condition of the leave If so stipulated condition 2 is operative A faculty member must specify all grants or other awards applied for or to be received during the leave in his her application for the sabbatical program A faculty member must agree to return to UWRF for at least one academic year of service after the termination of the sabbatical or repay any compensation salary plus the University s share of fringe benefits received from the UW System during the sabbatical A faculty member must submit a written report outlining his her accomplishments during the leave to the Provost Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs this report should be submitted within three months after the faculty member s return to full time employment Sabbatical Ranking Form Sabbatical Leave Success Rate 2003 04 to current Sabbaticals are effective for the 2017 2018 academic year View Application for 2017 2018 Due September 19 2016 NOTE This form does not properly display in all web browsers Right mouse click on the link and choose save link as Choose to download the form to your desktop Next visit your desktop and open the PDF from that location Applications must be submitted in electronic format after the necessary signatures are obtained A scanned copy must be attached to an e mail and sent to fasdb uwrf edu by 4 30 p m on the due date The e mail subject line must include the grant title and last name of the applicant example Sabbatical Fischer

    will be selected from UWRF to complete a teaching and learning project Each participant will receive 4 000 in financial support from UWRF and a 500 supplies and expense grant from OPID More information about WTF S Program Excellence in Teaching and Learning Series ETL The Excellence in Teaching and Learning Series program supports faculty members as they systematically inquire into their students learning in one particular course The data collected can then be published as well as used to inform existing teaching practice The course changes and data collection should occur during the following Fall semester in the next academic year after becoming an ETL participant exceptions will be considered for Spring courses Participants in the program must complete three critical parts of the project including completing activities prior to the group meetings participating in group meetings with other program participants and meeting individually with the program coordinator to discuss their project Five individuals will be chosen to work together and with the ETL Coordinator to investigate an issue of student learning within one of their courses Meetings will occur through the Fall and Spring semesters culminating in a final project proposal to be completed in June More information about the ETL program Online Teaching Institute OTI The Online Teaching Institute OTI is a semester long program that provides individual support to faculty members who are redesigning an existing course for online delivery Faculty members meet regularly with an instructional designer to collaborate on the design and development of their course In addition OTI participants meet with other colleagues in a group setting to share their work and receive feedback Online activities are also planned to provide faculty members with the experience of participating in an online course Each participant will receive a payment of 1 000 per course credit at the time the course is delivered online for the first time More information about the OTI program Online Course Redesign OCR The Online Course Redesign OCR provides funding and instructional support for faculty and instructional academic staff members interested in reconstructing a significant portion of a course currently offered online Applicants should clearly identify a significant teaching or student learning challenge that currently exists in a course and provide a detailed plan for redesigning the course to address the issue Participants will receive 750 per credit for the course being redesigned If required for the project additional one time funding under 250 is available for equipment microphone digital camera etc or software screen recording software etc More information about the OCR program Faculty College The Faculty College program offers UW faculty and teaching academic staff a unique opportunity to collaborate with other exceptional teachers from across the UW System during a four day faculty development experience focused on teaching and learning Four faculty members will be selected from UWRF to participate in the four day Faculty College experience typically held at UW Richland Richland Center WI during the last week of May Preference will be given to faculty
