    Based Assistance International Students Types of Assistance Summer School Assistance FAQ 2016 17 Checklist Revealing the Numbers For financial aid purposes you are considered to be an international student if you do not meet the eligibility criteria to receive federal student financial assistance To qualify for federal assistance students must be a United States citizen or eligible non citizen Vanderbilt University will offer renewable need based financial aid to a limited number of international freshman undergraduate applicants International students should be prepared to finance either privately or through a sponsor the full cost of their Vanderbilt education A student requesting consideration for need based financial aid is required to submit the College Board Financial Aid PROFILE showing their sources of financial support At the time of submission the only document we require is the PROFILE We reserve the right to ask for additional documentation to verify information submitted on the PROFILE Please know that by requesting consideration for need based aid admission to Vanderbilt is then need aware Those international students who demonstrate they can afford the cost of attending Vanderbilt will be given preferential treatment in the admission process International citizens who apply through Regular Decision and request need based aid will be reviewed as a separate group Based upon an evaluation of academic qualities financial need and availability of resources an international student may be considered for financial assistance The priority date to submit the PROFILE application for international students is January 5 International freshmen applicants are eligible to apply for all Vanderbilt merit based scholarships offered at Vanderbilt To be considered for merit based scholarships complete the appropriate applications online Students should be aware that merit based scholarships are awarded only to a select few of our most exceptional applicants each year Additional information regarding International Students

    be repaid with interest based upon a certain payment schedule For more loan information please see the section Loan Information Payment Plan Options Return to the Top Academic Year Student Contribution AYSC As the primary beneficiary of a Vanderbilt education you are expected to participate in paying for a portion of your college costs Your financial aid package for the academic year will typically include an Academic Year Student Contribution For most students the Academic Year Student Contribution is currently no more than 2 700 each academic year It is our initial expectation that you will cover all or part of your Academic Year Student Contribution from part time employment while in school Employment information for both on and off campus job opportunities may be found at Student Employment Vanderbilt does not place or guarantee students employment If you receive an outside scholarship it will be used first to replace or reduce your Academic Year Student Contribution before reducing Vanderbilt need based assistance The Academic Year Student Contribution represents the dollar amount you are expected to earn as part of your financial aid award to help meet your demonstrated financial need It is not an expense for which you will be billed and it is not an amount that will be credited directly as payment towards your bill Student Employment Student employment opportunities offer students a chance to gain valuable work experience in addition to receiving a paycheck for their hours worked Employment positions are not assigned students must initiate the job search and application process Wages earned from employment are not disbursed to your student account Instead they are earned by employment through Vanderbilt University and received as a paycheck that can either be applied to the balance on your student account or be used for living expenses Visit Student Employment website Federal Work Study Students must complete the FAFSA to determine eligibility for this program Eligible undergraduate students may work up to 20 hours per week on campus Eligible graduate professional students may work up to 29 5 hours per week on campus There are a variety of work locations and settings Wages begin at 7 25 but vary depending on type of job Most undergraduate students are awarded 1 000 2 700 per year Students are normally paid bi weekly for hours worked Vanderbilt Institutional Employment Program Vanderbilt has an institutional employment program for those students who do not qualify for the Federal Work Study program Most positions are obtained through the HireADore job website Eligible undergraduate students may work up to 20 hours per week on campus Eligible graduate professional students may work up to 29 5 hours per week on campus There are a variety of work locations and settings Wages begin at 7 25 but vary depending on type of job Students are normally paid bi weekly for hours worked Return to the Top Outside Scholarships These funds may be available from sponsoring organizations including parents employers religious organizations fraternal societies women s clubs

    please email Financial Aid indicating the aid to cancel or the revised amount you would like to retain If you are receiving additional financial aid assistance not listed on your financial aid award please complete the Outside Resources and Scholarship form and return to our office Please review the details on that form on how to remit those payments to Vanderbilt You must inform our office if you enroll or drop below full time status in any semester A reduction of financial aid may be necessary due to part time status or if you withdraw from the university The award revisions will be in accordance to relevant financial aid program policies and regulations The Office of Student Accounts issues E bills and receives payments Please complete the Student Permissions form in the Student Accounts portal under Campus Finances link in YES This allows you to use any Title IV funding your are awarded for discretionary charges beyond tuition and fees You must reapply for federal financial aid every year by submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards must be met to maintain financial aid eligibility Additional Consumer Information is available Award Acknowledgment When funds credit to your student account this certifies that you understand and will comply with the requirements and conditions described in this guide and provided on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarship website Financial Aid To Do List Please check your To Do List located in YES in the Financial Aid portal under Campus Personal Information Submit all required documentation Need based assistance offered must be considered tentative and will not credit to your student account until all documentation has been received and reviewed by our office If you have been awarded financial assistance based upon demonstrated financial need we must verify the accuracy of the information you submitted on your FAFSA and Profile applications You will receive an email with instructions on submitting your and your parents tax returns to College Board s IDOC service Do not send tax returns to our office Additional documents may be requested by our office to verify certain information Financial aid officers are available to answer questions regarding your awards or to discuss unusual circumstances that may impact your financial need For further information on what may be considered as unusual circumstances view the information and examples provided Reporting Additional Resources If you are receiving additional financial assistance not listed on your financial aid award notice outside scholarships veteran s benefits Vocational Rehabilitation etc please complete the Outside Resources and Scholarship form and return to our office If there is any change to your financial aid eligibility because of the additional assistance you will receive email notification that you have a revised award notice available Please note that whenever you receive additional assistance your aid awards may be adjusted or reduced even if your financial aid has already been disbursed to you Enrollment Requirements We assume you will enroll full time and

    Graduate and Professional students who wish to apply for student loans and work study financial assistance Eligibility is based on the difference between the amount the student is expected to pay any additional financial aid resources and the total cost of attending Total aid packages vary according to each student s eligibility Once eligibility has been determined students will receive an Award Letter notifying them of the type of aid available Included with the Award Letter will be any additional documents necessary for the processing of their aid package Graduate and Professional students are awarded all merit based aid including but not limited to scholarships grants and graduate research and teaching assistantships from their academic department The Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships awards all forms of federal aid which include but are not limited to Federal Direct Stafford Loans Perkins loans Federal Work Study as well as alternative loans Questions regarding the awarding and disbursement of merit based aid should be directed to academic departments while other aid questions should be directed to the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships Financial aid is awarded for one academic year only so students must re apply each year as described below To continue receiving assistance students must maintain satisfactory academic progress toward their degree and maintain minimum grade point average standards View our Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements for Federal Financial Aid Steps to applying for or renewing student loans and or work study for the 2015 16 school year which includes Summer 2016 Submit the Free Application for Student Aid FAFSA school code 003535 You may complete the online application using your FSA ID Please make sure that you are submitting the correct application for the 2015 2016 year Please note that the FAFSA application for 2015 2016 is
