    S Marriage and Divorce Marriage and Divorce MARRIAGE Should you desire to get married during your time here in the states you will need to abide by the following instructions Application of Marriage Form You may complete the downloadable form or fill one out at the County Clerk s Office Pursuant to Tenn Code Ann 36 3 104 a 1997 No county clerk nor deputy clerk shall issue a marriage license until the applicants make an application in writing stating the names ages addresses and social security numbers of both the proposed male and female contracting parties and the names and addresses of the parents guardian or next of kin of both parties The application must be sworn to by both parties Id The requirement of a social security number was added by legislative amendment Acts 1997 ch 551 30 effective July 1 1997 Marriage License Requirements Proof of date of birth Government Issued Photo Identification or Certified Birth Certificate AND Proof of Social Security Number for individuals that have been issued one Both parties must appear together at the 700 2nd Ave South Suite 101 Nashville TN 37210 8 00 a m 4 30 p m M F and must have proof that they are 18 or older If either party is under the age of 18 they must be accompanied by his her parents Tennessee law does not permit those under the age of 16 to marry without a court order The fee for a marriage license is 99 50 However license applicants who have completed a premarital preparation course see below within a year prior to the date of application for the license are exempted from paying 60 00 of this fee The couple must provide a Certificate of Completion form download and print Certificate of Completion here that has been completed and signed by the course provider Course provider s signature on the Certificate of Completion must be notarized The marriage license is valid for thirty 30 days from issuance and is good for ceremonies performed anywhere in Tennessee Marriage Solemnization Solemnization refers to the approval process of a marriage license Licenses themselves are invalid until solemnized The following is a list of those who can legally solemnize marriage certificates All regular ministers preachers pastors priests rabbis and other religious leaders of every religious belief more than 18 years of age having the care of souls Current and former members of county legislative bodies County mayors executives and former county mayors executives Current and former judges and chancellors of this state Current and former judges of general sessions courts The governor The county clerk of each county Current and former speakers of the senate and speakers of the house of representatives Mayors of municipalities If you have a formal religious ceremony your officiant may sign the license and return it to the County Clerk s office to finalize the process If you do NOT have a religious marriage ceremony you will need to contact the Nashville

    and Working in the U S Annual Tax Filing International Tax Topics and Links FICA Tax Exemptions Tax Treaties English Conversation Sessions Finding a Job Housing Legal Resources Immigration Attorneys Marriage and Divorce Phone Service Transportation and Driving Social Security Number SSN Storage Facilities Where to go for Health Care Home Living and Working in the U S Where to go for Health Care Where to go for Health Care Health Insurance It is important for all students scholars and their families members to maintain health insurance coverage for the entire time they are present in the U S Details about health insurance and how to select a plan can be found here Where do I go for health care There are several types of health care providers in the U S and it can sometimes be hard to know which is appropriate to choose It is important to remember that visits to the hospital emergency department are expensive and should be limited For most medical situations it is best to begin with a visit to the Student Health Center for students or a Primary Care Physician During evenings and weekends Urgent Care Centers are an option if you cannot wait for treatment Below is a helpful chart that provides examples of when to go to the Student Health Center or Primary Care Physician and when to go to the Emergency Department Adapted from Michigan State University How do I find a health care provider Zerfoss Student Health Center Students who are enrolled at Vanderbilt should always first visit the Zerfoss Student Health Center for non emergency health care The staff are available to meet all of the primary care needs and can assist in finding a specialist if needed Appointments are strongly encouraged but a walk in clinic is available for urgent matters Information on how to schedule an appointment can be found here Emergency consultation services are available after hours to assist students in making decisions about illnesses injuries and whether to use emergency services Community Resources The Student Health Center has compiled a list of health care providers in Nashville that are available for students scholars and families The list can be found here Please note that your health insurance plan may designate some providers as in network meaning the cost to you is lower when you use these providers It is important to check with your insurance plan before selecting a provider Health Assist Tennessee is a non profit organization that provides language services and medical interpretation The Health Assist Program provides assistance to people who need healthcare or healthcare coverage such as TennCare Medicare or private insurance but cannot afford it Our Health Assist Specialists help clients by identifying community healthcare resources available to them Health Assist Specialists do more than just make referrals they are client advocates that help set appointments fill out applications for insurance and prescription assistance programs and follow up to ensure our clients get the services they need For more

help with the Windstar tax system The International Tax Office ITO is the entity at Vanderbilt which can help you with Windstar ITO has walk in advising hours on Tuesdays from 11 00am 1 00pm in Suite 109 of the Student Life Center Their office is located in the Student Life Center in Suite 110 You want to work at Vanderbilt on an H 1B visa The Vanderbilt Office of International Services manages all H1 B visa applications for the university Information can be found on their website or you can email them at ois vanderbilt edu Travel Your visa has expired and you want to travel outside the U S ISSS recommend you to plan ahead to renew your visa if you plan to travel outside the USA with the expired visa More information on visa renewal and visa wait times can be found on our website You want to travel to Canada Mexico or the Caribbean Just like travelling to any other country outside of the U S you will need to come to ISSS to get a valid travel signature on your I 20 DS 2019 You will want to check with the embassy website for the country you are visiting to see if you are required to get a visa Click here for more information regarding travel If your U S visa is expired when you plan your trip to Canada Mexico or the adjacent Caribbean islands you can still re enter the U S within 30 days as long as you have a valid I 20 DS 2019 and valid I 94 Click here for more information on Automatic Visa Revalidation You forgot to get your I 20 or DS 2019 signed for travel before leaving the U S ISSS can mail you a new I 20 or DS 2019 with a travel signature You will need to email isss vanderbilt edu requesting a new I 20 DS 2019 with a travel signature and let us know to what address the new document should be mailed to Keep in mind that ISSS will mail your document via regular post USPS If you need your document faster or shipped via FedEx or DHL please check our Document Mailing Options website and read the instructions for Express Mail Service For additional information on travel visit our Travel page Your I 94 record needs to be corrected After speaking with an ISSS advisor about this issue it will most likely be necessary for you to take a trip to the Nashville Port of Entry to have your I 94 corrected The address and directions to the Nashville Port of Entry can be found here You keep getting stopped at the Port of Entry and questioned If you processing can also submit a redress request to US VISIT What is the ISIC The International Student Identity Card ISIC is an internationally recognized proof of full time student status that allows passport birth certificate or driver license When applying for IYTC you will also need Proof of your date of birth passport birth certificate or driver license When applying for ITIC you will also need Photocopy of your faculty ID showing validity for the academic year or a letter on official school stationery from department chair or school principal verifying current full time faculty status Proof or your date of birth passport birth certificate or driver license Transportation Driving You want a driver s license In order to drive a car you have to get a driver license issued by the state of Tennessee even if you have an international driver license To obtain one you must pass a vision test a written test examining your knowledge of Tennessee s traffic rules and a road test driving test To help you study for the written test the Driver s License Manual is available online Instructions for applying for a driver s license can be found on our website You have problems renewing your driver s license When you submit your application for a driver s license the agency must verify your immigration status in a system called SAVE Sometimes the system encounters technical programs or
