    number of peer institutions in strategic locations throughout the world Since early 2006 the Advisory Council for International Affairs has undertaken to identify a select group of potential core partners for Vanderbilt focusing on the key criteria of research prominence world class strengths in areas similar to Vanderbilt s disciplinary breadth at least five counterparts to VU s ten Schools and strategic location in terms of geopolitics economics and accessibility A core partnership agreement also requires strong commitment by the partner s academic leadership to devote sufficient financial and other resources to fostering these research collaborations and other cooperation among their students and administrative staff These expectations necessarily restrict the number of core partnerships that Vanderbilt can reasonably support On this basis Vanderbilt has entered into core partnerships with the following institutions University of Melbourne Australia University of Sao Paulo Brazil Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile Chile Fudan University China University of Cape Town South Africa Queen s University Belfast Northern Ireland Leipzig University Germany Utrecht University Netherlands Guidelines for Establishing Partnerships For more information on the process of establishing an international project or program please click here For information on establishing a memorandum of understanding MOU with an international

    one time Criteria for Evaluation Proposals in both categories will be evaluated by a committee of faculty members from a variety of disciplines Proposals are evaluated primarily on the basis of the quality of the proposed work In addition proposals must demonstrate strong potential for sustainability Evidence of sustainability might include but is not limited to the existence or likelihood of external funding other sources of institutional funding and participation by multiple faculty members at Vanderbilt Awards are based in part on the financial needs of the investigators Finally all proposals must be endorsed by the appropriate academic program and dean Partnerships involving any peer university or center outside of the U S are eligible Key Dates Proposals for both categories are due electronically by 5 00 pm on Monday October 26 2015 to Elizabeth Rapisarda at vpria vanderbilt edu Awards will be announced in early 2016 with funds available shortly thereafter Recipients must submit narrative and financial reports within one month of completion of the grant period Category A Collaborative Exploratory Grants Maximum Award Amount 10 000 Purpose Exploratory grants are intended to support individuals or small groups of researchers in their efforts to develop new research collaborations with foreign partners Funds may be used to cover travel related expenses transportation housing and meals for Vanderbilt researchers to travel abroad or to bring international collaborators to Vanderbilt Although these grants are exploratory in nature it is expected that applicants will have had initial conversations with collaborators and can demonstrate engagement and early planning on both sides at the time of submission Preference will be given to applications that also demonstrate the potential for impact that spans specialties or disciplines Group applicants may use the funds to organize planning workshops to identify shared research priorities and to map out plans for joint collaboration It is expected that the budget will be commensurate with the scope of activities proposed and the number of investigators involved Restrictions Funding may be used to cover travel related expenses including transportation housing and meals Equipment honoraria salary and fringe benefits are not eligible expenses Funding cannot be used for conference related travel In the case of a Vanderbilt researcher traveling abroad the traveler or one of the travelers in the case of multiple researchers must be the principal investigator listed on the grant application Visits are limited to a maximum of ten days Should the investigators require more time they will need to seek additional sources of funding The project period may be no longer than twelve months Category B Project Development Grants Maximum Award Amount 20 000 Purpose Project Development Grants are intended to fund research beyond the preliminary or exploratory stage Such research might have been previously funded by a Collaborative Exploratory Grant or otherwise be in a more advanced stage of development The goal of these awards is to lay the foundation for an ongoing and sustainable research partnership that includes mobility of faculty and students between the two institutions As such

    the state research foundation of São Paulo and largest research foundation in Brazil to foster collaborations between faculty at Vanderbilt and researchers affiliated with universities in the State of São Paulo In the first year of this partnership two proposals were selected for funding listed below The 2015 2016 call for proposals has been announced Full time tenured and tenure track faculty members in University Central College of Arts and Science School of Engineering Peabody College of Education and Human Development Owen School of Management Divinity School Law School and Blair School of Music are eligible to submit proposals as principal investigator Proposals may involve investigators from the Schools of Medicine and Nursing but the principal investigator must be based in University Central Proposals that include support for activities involving graduate students are encouraged Vanderbilt will only accept one application per related ongoing research project Likewise each researcher can present only one proposal to this call Complete information regarding the call including additional requirements for researchers at Vanderbilt and in São Paulo is available here The deadline for submissions is 5 p m CST on Monday October 26 2015 Awards will be announced in early January 2016 with funding available
