    by design for compound statements but does not allow blocks The C based languages use braces to delimit both compound statements and blocks Some languages have eliminated the need for specialty delimited compound statements by integrating compound statements into their control structure There is one design issue that is relevant to all of these selections and iteration control statements whether the control structure can have multiple entries All iteration and selection statements control the execution of segments of code Whether the execution of the code segments always begins with the first statement in the segment that is the question Note that multiple entries are possible only in the languages that include statement labels and gotos It is now believed that more that one entry adds flexibility of control construct to decrease in readability caused by the increased complexity The compound statement was once again introduced by ALGOL 60 provides the selection construct with a simple mechanism for conditionally executing group statements FORTRAN 77 and 90 followed ALGOL 60 providing single way selectors to select a compound statement or a sequence of statements ALGOL 60 first introduced the first two way selector where either or both selectable statements could be compound
