    all parts of the community to maintain the benevolent quality of life at the Virginia Military Institute and in the larger Lexington area by forming community partnerships and actively seeking input and participation in crime prevention and reduction programs We see the police function as a broad mandate to participate in programs to improve the community Mission Statement The mission of the Virginia Military Institute Police Department is to provide quality professional police services to the community of VMI to enforce laws and Post policies to serve and protect the Corp of Cadets faculty and staff alumni and visitors to prevent and detect criminal activity and to reduce the fear of crime through community partnerships About The VMI Police Department VMI has a fully trained and certified Police Department which provides for the safety and security of the Institute 24 hours a day VMI Police Department is staffed by ten full time two part time certified police officers and six part time security officers VMI Police officers are responsible for crime prevention traffic enforcement and the investigation and prosecution of all criminal offenses that occur on Post at any of VMI s outlying properties and on the streets and sidewalks adjoining Post All VMI Police officers are graduates of regional criminal justice training academies and are fully certified by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services Most VMI officers have many years of experience working for municipal police or sheriff s departments prior to being employed by VMI Each officer is required to complete 40 hours of in service training biennially and to pass an annual firearms qualification In addition VMI officers have additional specialty training in bicycle patrol tactical operations crisis negotiations crime prevention dignitary protection sexual assault and intimate partner violence investigation and more Several officers are certified

    s Office Career Services Bookstore Cadet Computing Admissions Corps Life Athletics Library Archives Preston Library Library Home Find Books Departments Media Equipment Technical Services Visitor Information Archives Archives Home Online Exhibits VMI History FAQs Genealogy Alumni Manuscripts Civil War New Market Give Close Menu Finance Administration Home VMI Infirmary Home Appointments Location and Hours Services Available Confidentiality Forms Information for Cadets Admission Information Insurance Threat Assessment Team Infirmary Staff Lorie Kingery Office Manager P 540 464 7218 F 540 464 7707 VMI Infirmary 448 Institute Hill 1st Floor Lexington VA 24450 Contact VMI Infirmary VMI Infirmary Laboratory testing showed that the respiratory illnesses last semester were caused by Adenovirus 4 and Mycoplasma pneumoniae We have not seen any similar infections following winter break We are hoping for a healthier spring semester but we encourage all cadets to continue careful hand washing and proper hygiene to decrease the chance of illness spreading in barracks The VMI Infirmary is a modern medical facility located in the Post Hospital building on the VMI campus It is open 24 hours a day during the fall and spring semesters A team of nurses a nurse practitioner and a physician evaluate and treat cadets for routine illnesses and injuries There are 18 inpatient beds for overnight observation and isolation for those cadets who cannot comfortably or safely stay in barracks Cadets with more severe illnesses are referred to the local hospital or a specialist for care There is no extra charge to visit the Infirmary or see the nurse or doctor Many medications are dispensed at no charge Lab tests ordered or appointments off Post will be the responsibility of the cadet Sick call walk in first come first serve is daily Monday Saturday at 5 00 a m and is staffed by nurses and the
