    7421 F 540 464 7768 E International Programs Virginia Military Institute Old Hospital Lexington VA 24450 Home Academics Programs International Programs Study Abroad Study Abroad Welcome to VMI Education Abroad Every year more than 100 cadets pursue an international learning experience By combining intellectual quest with firsthand exposure to different cultural traditions cadets gain a global perspective and acquire important life skills critical thinking independence flexibility resilience and the ability to interact and communicate across differences Cadets often describe their education abroad experiences as extremely rewarding and life changing We invite you to take advantage of the education abroad opportunities and add an international dimension to your VMI education This website offers guidance and resources to help make your education abroad experience a success Follow these steps to identify your interests and needs take into account policies and procedures and explore program options The first step in preparing to study abroad is to watch the Education Abroad Workshop The Workshop is a 15 minute presentation please turn on the sound on your computer It outlines Program options available Education Abroad eligibility criteria and other policies Education Abroad advising process Financial aid and other sources of funding available Step by step instructions on completing an Education Abroad application EDUCATION ABROAD WORKSHOP After you have viewed the workshop Click the Application button below If this is your first time applying for a study abroad program click on the button next to I do not have log in credentials Begin setting up your VMI study abroad account Click on Programs in the top menu bar to search for approved programs that match your interests When you have found a program click on apply now or schedule an advising appointment with our office Be sure to complete all of the items in your application

    Burress International Study and Internship Fund A recent endowment this fund provides financial awards to Cadets engaged in international study and international internships Guidelines for determining recipients of the Burress Fund scholarships will be determined by the Dean of the Faculty and administered jointly by the Office of International Programs and the International Programs Committee The Ruth Miller Lanford Memorial Fellowship This fund provides financial awards to Cadets pursuing special studies intended to broaden and enrich their undergraduate education This fund has traditionally been used to support foreign study It is administered jointly by the Office of International Programs and the International Programs Committee Awards from this fund are based on academic merit The Rocco Conte Mediterranean Scholarship This scholarship is based on academic merit Corps leadership and participation and strength of character It is also reserved for Liberal Arts majors first and non Liberal Arts majors second and for study in the Mediterranean region Other Scholarships The Boren Scholarship This scholarship is funded by the National Security Education Program is designed to provide American undergraduates with the resources and encouragement they need to acquire skills and experience in countries and areas of the world critical to the future security of our nation Click here for Application The Fulbright Scholar Program The J William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board was established by Congress for the purpose of supervising the Fulbright Program and certain programs authorized by the Fulbright Hays Act and for the purpose of selecting students scholars teachers trainees and other persons to participate in the educational exchange programs The Fulbright Program provides grants for Graduate Students Scholars and Professionals and Teachers and Administrators from the U S and other countries Click here for More Information or visit the website at http exchanges state gov education fulbright The Gilman International Scholarship This program offers grants for U S citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies abroad Click here for More Information The Olmsted Foundation Grant This grant provides financial assistance to commissioning ROTC cadets to travel abroad for a period of up to two weeks to a non English speaking country Awards from this grant are based on a combination of academic merit and leadership excellence For more information and to apply click here Project GO Global Officers is a collaborative initiative that promotes critical language education study abroad and intercultural dialogue opportunities for ROTC students Project GO programs focus exclusively on the languages and countries of the Middle East Asia Central Asia and Africa Project GO provides scholarships for critical language study is open to any ROTC student and is open to contracted or non contracted cadets For more information visit their website at www rotcprojectgo org Rotary International a global service organization of more than 1 2 million members is the world s largest private scholarship provider Locally in northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia area Rotary District 7570 annually provides several scholarships for college students Click here for more information and a link to
