    Areas of Study Course Catalog Enrichment Programs Services Support Summer Programs Research at VMI Scholarships Office of the Dean Dean s Time Academic Visitors and Events Faculty Development Academic Board Committees Policies Procedures Forms Staff Reporting Offices Dean s Office P 540 464 7212 F 540 464 7719 Dean s Office Virginia Military Institute 210 Smith Hall Lexington VA 24450 Home Academics Dean Dean of the Faculty Greetings from the Virginia Military Institute These are exciting times at VMI as we have undertaken a great crusade for institutional excellence With unflagging and generous moral and financial support from our alumni and friends VMI Dean of the Faculty Dean of the Faculty Retired U S Army Brig Gen Jeffrey G Smith Jr 79 is dean of the faculty and deputy superintendent for academics Born into a military family Smith accepted a commission in the Army upon graduation from VMI and embarked upon a military career of more than 33 years that concluded with his retirement in 2013 as Deputy Commanding General of Army Cyber Command Smith began his Army career with company grade officer positions in the 9th Infantry Division at Fort Lewis Wash and in Europe in the Pershing II Nuclear Missile Command He later taught English at the United States Military Academy in West Point N Y where he helped found a literary journal The Circle in the Spiral Smith served the U S Army U S Central Command and NATO in command and principal staff roles in Europe Bosnia Herzegovina Iraq and Afghanistan During Operation Iraqi Freedom Smith commanded the 22nd Signal Brigade As commander of that brigade dual hatted as V Corps G 6 Smith installed operated and defended the information environment for the invasion and occupation of Iraq During Operation Enduring Freedom Smith served as the

    Welfare and Safety Regimental Band About Cadet Leadership Student Consumer Information Parents and Family Info Cadet Sign In Out Cadet in Barracks Cadet out of Barracks Holly Leech Commandant Office Manager P 540 464 7313 F 540 464 7748 E leechhc vmi edu OC 540 464 7293 OB 135 Evening Night OC 540 464 7962 OB 123 or 540 464 7285 NB 496 Guard Room 540 464 7294 Jackson Arch Commandant s Office Virginia Military Institute Jackson Arch Barracks Lexington VA 24450 Glee Club The VMI Glee Club is listed as an activity in the first VMI yearbook the BOMB published in 1885 In its early days the Club performed as much instrumental music as vocal with guitars mandolins and violins accompanying Glee Club Glee Club The Glee Club continues its traditional program of concerts throughout Virginia and the eastern United States for alumni chapter gatherings recruiting dinners conventions Spring Tour and numerous appearances at VMI during the year The Club¹s small select group The Sentinels concentrates on appearances at events where the full Club would not be appropriate In addition to singing the standard repertoire The Sentinels feature popular music and entertainment of a lighter nature The VMI Glee Club is listed as an activity in the first VMI yearbook the BOMB published in 1885 In its early days the club performed as much instrumental music as vocal with guitars mandolins and violins accompanying the singing The early entertainment took the form of minstrel shows with formal concerts as we now know them not becoming standard fare until the 1930s The father of the modern VMI Glee Club was the legendary professor of English Colonel Herbert N Dillard 34 who while a cadet was instrumental in organizing a club from informal groups which gathered on the stoops of Barracks

    Departments Media Equipment Technical Services Visitor Information Archives Archives Home Online Exhibits VMI History FAQs Genealogy Alumni Manuscripts Civil War New Market Give Close Menu Finance Administration Home VMI Infirmary Home Services Available Confidentiality Forms Information for Cadets Admission Information Insurance Threat Assessment Team Infirmary Staff Lorie Kingery Office Manager P 540 464 7218 F 540 464 7707 VMI Infirmary 448 Institute Hill 1st Floor Lexington VA 24450 Contact VMI Infirmary Welcome to the Infirmary Newly renovated the VMI Infirmary is a modern medical facility on Post open 24 hours a day throughout the academic year A team of nurses a nurse practitioner and a physician evaluates and treats cadets for Infirmary Home VMI Infirmary Laboratory testing showed that the respiratory illnesses last semester were caused by Adenovirus 4 and Mycoplasma pneumoniae We have not seen any similar infections following winter break We are hoping for a healthier spring semester but we encourage all cadets to continue careful hand washing and proper hygiene to decrease the chance of illness spreading in barracks The VMI Infirmary is a modern medical facility located in the Post Hospital building on the VMI campus It is open 24 hours a day during the fall and spring semesters A team of nurses a nurse practitioner and a physician evaluate and treat cadets for routine illnesses and injuries There are 18 inpatient beds for overnight observation and isolation for those cadets who cannot comfortably or safely stay in barracks Cadets with more severe illnesses are referred to the local hospital or a specialist for care There is no extra charge to visit the Infirmary or see the nurse or doctor Many medications are dispensed at no charge Lab tests ordered or appointments off Post will be the responsibility of the cadet Sick call walk in first
