  • Waldorf professors team up to form Atlantic Piano Duo
duo might be a good idea The pair came up with the name Atlantic Piano Duo based on Stanley s hometown of Atlantic Iowa as well as the stretch of ocean leading to Taylor s Icelandic roots It s plain to see that both professors have a passion for piano especially when watching them perform but what you may not know is that the duo is engaged to be married in Iceland this June Both Dr Taylor and Dr Stanley studied under Joanne Baker in a close knit supportive studio at the University of Missouri Kansas City after which they had lost touch for about 18 years Baker kept files on her students and when she died she bequeathed the files to be returned to them I found mine and happened to see Kristín s file Dr Stanley said I returned it to her this summer which actually resulted in the relationship we have now We felt a piano duo resulting from this would be a good idea and it s been a real joy working together Dr Stanley accepted an adjunct position at Waldorf College in late fall 2014 We wish to share our piano experiences together combine forces and see the results Dr Taylor said We are just getting started The duo is currently performing primarily 20 th century music along with an original composition by Dr Stanley Many of the duets they play are orchestral pieces transcribed for piano duets which people would play in their homes as entertainment in years prior to radio and recordings It has been a revealing study and lot of fun to play these pieces said Dr Stanley In a way this will be a genuine presentation of the work in its earliest conception all in the spirit of 19th and early
