  • Beethoven Festival Trio Performing As Part of Waldorf Artist Series
    chamber music fans Based in Park City Utah this unique viola clarinet and piano trio enjoys entertaining its listeners with its unique sound impressive virtuoso playing and all round commitment to beautiful music making Beethoven Festival Trio will perform at the Odvin Hagen Recital Hall at Waldorf College 7 p m on Sunday November 15 2015 Waldorf Community Artist Series Coordinator and Music Department Chair Dr Kristín Jónína Taylor said The Beethoven Festival Trio originates from Park City Utah where they regularly present community outreach programs of extreme high quality It is an unusual combination of instruments clarinet viola and piano but the beautiful sound of the ensemble is breath taking For 27 years Waldorf College has brought in world class fine arts performances to Forest City through the Waldorf Community Artist Series In June 2015 Forest City was selected as the Iowa community to participate in the 2015 2017 cycle of Arts Midwest World Fest As part of the program four international music ensembles will perform Each ensemble will spend a week in the Forest City community during which the ensemble will share its unique culture and music through workshops in schools in community locations and through a public concert celebration at the end of the week The idea behind the program is to give Midwestern communities especially smaller and mid size communities an opportunity to experience music language and culture they may not be exposed to otherwise We are thrilled with the attendance that we ve had in the past two concerts and are hoping it continues throughout the year said Dr Taylor This series is very special with the two Arts Midwest concerts but additionally we have incredible musicians from all over the United States coming to perform in engaging and exciting programs which our audiences will

  • WALDORF COLLEGE HOST EXPERIMENTAL ART EXHIBIT
    The exhibit also features three paintings with a graphic design element and are called the Makrokosmos Trilogy These pieces were inspired by compositions of avant garde composer George Crumb s Makrokosmos Vol II The music had all the components of ordinary compositions but they did not have a recognizable melody or tune much like an abstract painting has all the elements of color composition and value but no recognizable subject matter stated Allison who got the idea while listening to his wife Elizabeth perform the compositions The other works in the exhibit which runs through Dec 4 are traditional acrylics on canvas The gallery housed in Waldorf s Campus Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a m to 10 p m Director Dean Swenson is excited about Allison s exhibit I had an opportunity to hear Wayne talk about this show last spring and thought it would be an interesting show for Waldorf especially for the graphic design students to see the old school way of doing things said Swenson Allison was born in Edmonton Alberta Canada where he lived until moving to Iowa to attend Graceland University in Lamoni After receiving his bachelor s degree in art with an emphasis in painting and ceramics Allison taught art at a rural high school in south central Iowa Wayne later completed his graduate work at Syracuse University in New York receiving a master s in fine arts He has held many positions in his career including art instructor professor of art and design graphic designer illustrator art director creative director and creative manager He is an award winning graphic designer whose work has been exhibited in Boston Denver Toronto and Edmonton and was included in an international traveling show Best of the Eighties that featured works of Canadian designers
