    Laptop Policies Staff Support Hours and Phone Numbers Registrar s Office Business Office International Students Policies Residential Current Students Student Services Institutional Technologies Connecting to Waldorf s Network Connecting to Waldorf s Network To log on to the network Make sure the network cable is plugged in before you begin Enter your user id in the User name field replacing the user name Administrator Note Your designated user id was given to you when you were issued your laptop Enter the word password for your password Under the filed Log on to select Waldorf Change password instructions The first time you log on you will be prompted Your password has expired and must be changed Select OK Create and enter a new password Note Passwords must be six characters long Do not include spaces Enter your new password in the New Password and Confirm Password lines Select OK When told your password has been changed select OK Password Tips Choose a password that you can remember Never share your password with anyone Any activity associated with your user id and password is your responsibility Network Access Waldorf College provides excellent network access to students with connections in every dorm room

    when your laptop was issued to you I think I have a virus on my computer How do I clean it Symantec anti virus software is preinstalled on your laptop Updated virus definition files are sent out to students periodically Be sure to completely scan your computer to clean the virus off your computer If unsuccessful bring your laptop to the IT department for further assistance with virus detection and removal How do I check my email from home or off campus Please refer to the Campus Email and Web section of this site I have a six week internship scheduled Can I take my laptop with me Waldorf students have the option to take their laptop with them for their internship if they attend their internship in the semester they were registered as a full time student Students are required to fill out an Internship Request form These forms are available from the IT Department Can I connect my own printer to the laptop The IT department encourages students to connect their own printers for the convenience of printing in their dorm room Assistance in the installation of the printer can be obtained by calling or stopping by the IT department I would like to scan some pictures for a class project Is there a scanner on campus I can use There is a scanner located in the library that is available for students to use I will be giving a presentation in class using my laptop Is there a projection unit available for student use The Waldorf IT department has projection units available on a checkout basis You may call email or stop by to reserve a projection unit My professor has given me an extension following semester end to finish a paper Can I keep my laptop after the semester is over Students may request an extension from the IT department by completing a Request for Exception to College Policy form Students must complete and return the form to the IT Department All requests must be made prior to semester end and before the specified due date or late fees will be assessed The granting of the extensions will be approved on a case by case basis After the end of second semester I will be staying on campus for sports and would like to have a computer for access to email and the Internet Can I just keep mine until I leave Student athletes staying on campus after the end of winter semester due to Spring team sports schedules may keep their laptop until they depart at no additional charge pending laptop availability Can I download MP3 s and share them on the network In order to conserve network resources and because of the legality of copyright issues we do not allow the sharing and or distribution of music files on our network Legally purchased MP3 s can be downloaded and stored on the hard drive See Legal Issues under the Computer Use Policy for more

    in a classroom or anywhere else Lock your dorm room each time you leave to protect yourself from theft It can take less than a minute for your laptop to be stolen Power your laptop down on a daily basis Leaving the computer on for extended periods of time will reduce the system resources and cause poor performance Do not place your laptop in the bag with cables still attached This can damage the ports on the system board Saving Backing up Files and Documents Network Storage and Mapping a Network Drive The most common storage location for your documents is the hard drive of your laptop However the IT department does not recommend that you rely on one storage location for your documents or other important files Hard drive failure is a very common occurrence Too often a hard drive will crash during finals week when many hours have been spent on that paper or final project Waldorf College students are allowed 50 MB of storage space on the network for academic purposes Requests are granted on a per semester basis Items not permitted includes but are not limited to storing and sharing of illegal MP3 s obscene material or photos and files in violation of academic integrity The contents of this network folder will be monitored by IT staff and any violation of the Waldorf Computer Use Policy will result in immediate removal of these files and student access to the folder removed Request forms for network storage are available at the IT Department To map a network drive Once you ve received your network storage folder you may wish to map a network drive for shortcut access to your folder Double click on Network Places on desktop and double click on Waldorf Vault Locate your network folder and right click on it Select map network drive and click OK Select a network drive letter we recommend Z be sure reconnect at log on is checked and click Finish Your network drive shortcut will be visible when you click on My Computer Microsoft Office Microsoft Office XP Professional is the standardized software package used by Waldorf and is installed on every laptop This includes Word Excel Access and Outlook IT department staff are trained to instruct faculty staff and students on the Microsoft Office XP Professional software individually or in small groups Dual Mouse Options Waldorf s Dell laptops come with both the trackpoint mouse as well as the trackpad mouse You have the option of using both or disabling one or the other Following are the instructions to enable disable the mouse trackpoint and or trackpad Click on Start click on Control Panel click on Mouse Choose the Device Select tab Make your selection from the options listed Dell DVD Connection Waldorf s Dell laptop has an internal DVD player You can connect this to your TV for movie playback The following instructions will guide you through this setup Connect the laptop and TV with the video

  • Student Laptop Policies
    TO INSURE THE LAPTOP AGAINST DAMAGE AND OR LOSS Students are encouraged to add their assigned laptop to their parent s homeowner s or rental insurance policy Stand alone insurance policies for laptops are also available These may be obtained from an insurance agent The IT Department has information available for laptop insurance Students who choose not to purchase insurance are responsible for all costs of theft or damage Change in Full time Status of Student Students who move from full time to part time status must return their laptop to the IT Department within one week of the status change or within one week of the last day to drop or add classes whichever is earlier Laptop Return Dates The official Laptop Return Date is the last business day of finals week Students who are enrolled full time may keep their laptop assigned to them between semesters as long as they are registered for the upcoming semester Students may request an extension to the Laptop Return Date by completing a REQUEST FOR EXCEPTION TO COLLEGE POLICY form Students must complete and return the form to the IT Department on or before the Laptop Return Date to qualify for an exception The form is available at the IT Department The IT Department communicates specific Laptop Return Dates to all students via email however students are responsible to know the Laptop Return Dates Fines and Charges A 100 Late Fee will be assessed to students who do not return their laptop by the Laptop Return Date Charges for user caused damage will be charged to the students account Stolen or lost laptops as well as components issued to the student i e bag cable adapter will be charged at 100 of original cost to the student who was assigned the laptop
