  • Waldorf Vows to Stop Hunger | The Warrior
    Inc Stop Hunger is a charity founded by the Waldorf College Committee on Vocation and Service They hold fundraisers year round to supplement the annual food packaging event each spring Some events include the Puckerbrush Ice Cream Social Breadline and several sponsored events at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City Iowa This year it is Stop Hunger s goal to raise 18 000 That much money would provide 72 000 meals to hungry people around the world Participants in the 2014 event raised 17 902 and packaged 71 610 meals Volunteers both individual and groups are encouraged to sign up for a packing time Slots are available every hour from 2 7 p m Community members interested in getting involved in this food packaging event should contact Pøtt Van Auken at pva wctatel net or 641 587 4138 to reserve a packing time Waldorf College students and employees can contact Sharese Hall at sharese hall waldorf edu or 641 585 8727 For those who wish to contribute but are unable to attend the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City is also accepting monetary donations year round Author Claire Stewart Share This Post On Google Facebook Twitter Submit a Comment Cancel

  • Hero Behind The Hero Scholarship Open | The Warrior
    you just hope they walk back through the door We call these our Hero Behind the Hero They are the husbands wives and children behind our military members and first responders Waldorf College recognizes the sacrifices made by family members of America s military men and women and public safety personnel including firefighters law enforcement officers EMT s and dispatchers A hero can be defined in numerous ways and often make many sacrifices throughout the time of service Waldorf College chooses to assist the spouses and children of these heroes by offering a scholarship for online tuition Every October Waldorf selects two students to award the Hero Behind the Hero scholarship This scholarship covers up to 16 500 in one Waldorf College online degree program One scholarship will be awarded to the spouse or child of an active duty or National Guild military man or woman The second scholarship will be award to the spouse or child of public safety personnel Waldorf accepts applications for the Hero Behind the Hero scholarship beginning July 1 through September 30 To be eligible for the scholarship candidates must have a high school transcript or GED be available to begin coursework within 90 days of the date of the award maintain a 2 0 undergraduate grade point average or 3 0 for graduate and remain in good stating throughout the degree program Current Waldorf College students must already have met these requirements Learn more about the Waldorf College Hero Behind the Hero scholarship here To apply submit the Hero Behind the Hero Scholarship Application by September 30 2015 Author Whitney Fike Share This Post On Google Facebook Twitter Trackbacks Pingbacks President s Message June 2015 The Warrior the family members of America s military men and women and public safety personnel by offering a

    their happiness is continuous It is not happy people who are thankful it is thankful people who are happy Physiologists often study the power of thankfulness and gratitude This growing field of study has been termed positive psychology It is the scientific study of the strengths that enable individuals and communities to thrive The field is founded on the belief that people want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives to cultivate what is best within themselves and to enhance their experiences of love work and play according to the Positive Psychology Center When you are able to give thanks and show appreciation your mental well being is affected for the better There are many ways to show thankfulness and gratitude to others around you It can be simple gestures or elaborate meaningful displays but any goodwill going into something special creates a cherished feeling Our daily lives sometimes get in the way and we forget to slow down to be thankful to people that have helped us in our careers and lives Here are some easy ways to show gratitude Send a handwritten thank you note Give a small gift to someone mailed or in person Show your thanks verbally in front of others Surprise someone with kindness Invite them to a special event or place Offer to do something for them Share thanks on social media Compliment them on a talent or skills Give a larger tip that usual Smile Exhibit patience Listen fully Give a detailed example of appreciation Volunteer for a task Always say thank you These simple things can make you life more enjoyable to you and those around you When studying psychology students are able to study behaviors and mental processes In the psychology program at Waldorf College courses will introduce students to many subfields
