  • Vietnamese Proficiency & Placement | Asian Languages & Literature | University of Washington
    UW students One way to waive the one year UW foreign language requirement is to pass the Department s Vietnamese Proficiency Exam scheduled quarterly during the regular academic year except Summer quarter A 20 fee is to be paid on the day the Exam is taken If paying by check make it out to Department of Asian Languages and Literature Please send an email to asianadv u washington edu with your name and e mail address to sign up for the Exam The next Proficiency Exam will take place Wednesday April 1 from 2 30pm 4 30pm Location Denny 209 The Vietnamese proficiency test has two parts The first part is translating a text from English into Vietnamese The text is in elementary level but the test takers are expected to be able to write the translation with correct spelling correct diacritic marks and tones The second text is in intermediate level and slightly more challenging The test takers are expected to understand and translate it into English Correction and accuracy are required The University of Washington is committed to providing access equal opportunity and reasonable accommodation in its services programs activities education and employment for individuals with disabilities If you are a student with a documented disability and need to request disability accommodation s for your exam please contact the Disability Services Office at least ten days in advance of your scheduled exam date at 206 543 6450 V 206 543 6452 TTY 206 685 7264 FAX or e mail at dso u washington edu Placement Interview To arrange a Placement Interview in Vietnamese please email Dr Bich Ngoc Turner Students who misrepresent the extent of their background so as to gain entrance to a course at the elementary or intermediate level will be dropped from the roster of
