    nursing schools Since 1982 this program has prepared students for the nursing profession by providing a solid Christian liberal arts foundation including pre nursing courses during the three years the student is at Wheaton The last two years or more are spent at the nursing school Please consult the Wheaton College On line Catalog regarding course prerequisites to fulfill the requirements for the Liberal Arts Nursing major Pathways to the Nursing Profession at Wheaton The Health Professions program administers the Liberal Arts Nursing major LA N and also provides advising and support services for pre nursing students who are non LA N majors The Pre Nursing program at Wheaton College is comprised of these pathways LA N major as a first major 3 2 program LA N as a second major all requirements for the major must still be fulfilled including enrollment in nursing school Non LA N major with an interest in the nursing profession and a desire to complete admissions requirements for application to graduate entry direct entry masters nursing programs Nursing Schools The nursing profession desires to have more highly educated nurses and nurse leaders Nursing schools have been in transition in order to educate better prepared nurses and nurse leaders for the future The nature of the agreements Wheaton has are school specific Liberal Arts Nursing major 3 2 Program Nell Hodgson Woodruff Nursing School Emory University For the Bachelor of Science in Nursing BSN BSN Transfer Option Vanderbilt University School of Nursing For the Master of Science in Nursing MSN Vanderbilt has a formalized arrangement with Wheaton The following schools now require a baccalaureate degree for admission Previously Wheaton had a 3 2 relationship with these schools Rush University Still considers Wheaton students affiliates Generalist Entry Masters GEM Johns Hopkins University Still considers Wheaton a

    Philosophy As a student in the Wheaton College Philosophy Department you ll be challenged to reflect on some of life s most interesting and important questions questions about the nature of the world human nature and human flourishing You ll be equipped with critical thinking skills and intellectual independence that will serve you well in any career path Menu Why Study Philosophy Majors Faculty Courses Opportunities Speaker Series Information and Resources Philosophy Dr Sarah Borden Department Chair Blanchard Hall 501 College Avenue Wheaton IL 60187 5593 Phone 630 752 5040 Fax 630 752 5581 philosophy wheaton edu Dealing with Life s Questions Does God exist and if so what is God like Are there objective moral principles binding on all persons How can humans attain true happiness What do the demands of justice require of me To what extent if any are humans free When if ever is it morally permissible to take a human life Philosophy s questions are often life orienting questions the answers to which shape our self understanding and sometimes direct our life s plans and purposes making them important questions to address These questions are pursued in the distinctive sub fields of philosophy Metaphysics Epistemology Ethics Philosophy of Religion Philosophy of Science Political Philosophy Philosophy of Art These among others are courses we offer These subject areas of philosophy by their very subject matter require that students think cross disciplinarily If for example one studies the philosophy of art the theory and practice of actual artists will constitute part of the content of any such course To ask about the conditions for knowledge requires that one look at historical scientific interpersonal and other forms of knowledge as they are pursued in various fields of inquiry Majoring in Philosophy Regular Major Philosophy majors can select from two tracks The regular major requires 32 hours of designated course work Integrated Major Our integrated major requires just 24 hours of philosophy and 16 hours from some companion discipline such as theology psychology English or science Students who pursue the integrated major must take appropriate bridge courses to bring philosophy and the companion discipline into fruitful conversation Many of our majors find that the integrative major is an ideal way to pursue a double major What Can You Do With a Philosophy Major Anything you want Most of our nearly 100 majors don t go on to graduate school in philosophy but successfully pursue careers in law medicine ministry business social services and just about every career imaginable Philosophy students develop skills in clear thinking analytical reasoning and clear and persuasive writing and speaking all of which are in high demand regardless of one s career choice Annual Philosophy Department Speaker Series 2015 16 This year s series features nationally known speakers such as Dr Nicholas Wolterstorff from Yale University and Dr Michael Bergmann from Purdue University More Share This Page Feedback Media Center Giving to Wheaton Back to Top About Wheaton Value of a Wheaton Education Wheaton People
