  • Apply for Financial Aid 2016-17 | Wheaton
    the FAFSA and our institutional financial aid application We recommend that you submit your applications as soon as possible as awards are made on an ongoing basis based on the date of application If you have not yet completed your 2015 taxes please use estimates on the FAFSA and institutional applications making corrections once your taxes have been finalized STEP 1 File the FAFSA using college code 001781 You can file the FAFSA as early as January 1 2016 However we suggest you file your 2015 tax return electronically wait several weeks for it to be processed and then complete the FAFSA On the FAFSA if you are eligible you can choose to have your tax data retrieved electronically from the IRS If you do not have your completed tax information available in time to meet the February 15 priority deadline you may use estimates to file the FAFSA and correct the information once available Update Since the IRS will not begin accepting tax returns until late January those needing to meet the February 15 deadline should submit the 2016 17 FAFSA using your best 2015 tax data estimates You will then need to complete a FAFSA correction choosing to use the IRS data retrieval once your tax return has been processed Important Proofread your personal data carefully Errors particularly on social security numbers can lead to processing delays and complications After filing the FAFSA you will receive a Student Aid Report SAR from the federal processor listing the information you provided If you provided an e mail address on the FAFSA you will receive a link to your SAR via e mail Otherwise you will receive your SAR through the mail Review this information carefully If corrections need to be made go to www fafsa gov or use Part 2 of the paper SAR to correct the information and send the signed SAR directly to the federal processor STEP 2 Submit Wheaton Institutional Financial Aid Application or CSS Profile The Wheaton Institutional Financial Aid Application will be available in mid January Please complete the FAFSA first Important note The Wheaton Institutional application is required for institutional need based aid but not for federal aid Be sure to indicate whether you are a dependent or an independent undergraduate As with the FAFSA you can use estimates for 2015 if necessary to complete the application by the deadline Alternatively we will accept but do not require the CSS Profile from College Board code 1905 However we encourage students to complete the Wheaton aid application since it is free of charge and simpler to complete Special circumstances that need further explanation Please email fax or mail a letter of explanation to our office STEP 3 Submit Verification Documents if requested Read full verification policy The student will be notified if verification documents are requested Any documents submitted must include the student s full name and student ID number Verification Deadline Students must provide verification documentation prior to the last day of the

    the financial aid application process some students are selected for what is termed verification This means that we are requesting additional information to verify the information provided on the FAFSA or on the institutional application CSS Profile Not all students will be asked for the same information In addition the need to verify is assessed each year so a student may be selected one year but not another Or a student may be asked to submit the same information each year Either way the goal is to have an accurate assessment of a family s financial situation Finally at any point in the award processing if we find it necessary we may require additional information Read full policy Special Provision for Books and Supplies By the seventh day of a payment period upon request Pell Grant eligible students may obtain books and supplies required for the payment period through a bookstore voucher if Ten days before the beginning of the payment period the student meets all the student eligibility requirements Note A student who has not completed the verification process has an unresolved C code on the SAR or has unresolved conflicting information is not covered by this provision and Disbursement of those funds would have created a credit balance in federal student aid funds The amount provided is the lesser of the presumed credit balance or the actual amount determined that the student needs to obtain the books and supplies Financial Aid Eligibility for Approved Off Campus Study A student s enrollment in an Approved Off Campus program may be considered enrollment at Wheaton College for the purpose of applying for federal and institutional financial assistance Students make applicattion for Approved Off Campus enrollment through the Center of Global and Experiential Learning GEL Approved Off Campus enrollment will only be available for students enrolling in a program included on the list of approved programs which is available through the GEL Office Students selecting a non approved program will have an inactive Wheaton status and be required to file a returning student application for readmission through the Admissions Office Students granted Approved Off Campus status are eligible for both federal and institutioinal grants scholarships and loans Determination of institutional need based grant award amounts are capped at on campus award amounts Wheaton College provides institutional scholarship and grant funding for these programs in an effort to increase study abroad participation by our students as part of our Strategic Priority to Globalize a Wheaton Education Federal Title IV Funds Withdrawal Policy Federal Title IV financial aid funds are awarded to a student under the assumption that the student will attend school for the entire period for which the assistance is awarded When a student withdraws the student may no longer be eligible for the full amount of Title IV funds that the student was originally scheduled to receive Read full policy Student Agreement Form The following information is important for all students If you have any questions please contact the Financial

    Award How to Set Up Your myWheaton Account Financial Aid Student Services Building 501 College Ave Wheaton IL 60187 Phone Toll Free 800 362 2674 Local 630 752 5021 Fax 630 752 5413 finaid wheaton edu To view further details and accept your financial aid offer and or decline any portion you do not wish to accept please go to myWheaton http my wheaton edu and log in If you have not already set up your myWheaton account please refer to the instructions 1 Once you have logged in you will see a Banner Self Service channel in the middle column of the home page you may need to scroll down to see it Click on Banner Self Service then Financial Aid then the Financial Aid Status link 2 This will take you to a page that asks for the appropriate aid year Choose 2016 2017 and press the Submit button 3 On the Financial Aid Status page click the link titled You have been awarded financial aid 4 This will take you to the Award Package page Please carefully follow the instructions moving through the tabs from left to right to accept your financial aid award Please note that subsequent notifications regarding any changes to your financial aid status new requirements changes to your award etc will not be sent to you through the mail We will send all correspondence to your Wheaton College email address i e joe student my wheaton edu If you have not yet set up your Wheaton College email address you will need to do so please refer to the instruction sheet on the back for details If you use another email address as your primary address you will need to forward your Wheaton College address to your primary address so that you can
