    faculty member is associate professor of biology Kristen Page whose recent advisory visit with Andrew Kinzer 11 near Lake Natron Tanzania afforded quite the opportunity for faculty student collaboration On my recent visit with HNGR intern Andrew Kinzer 11 we spent some quality time close to 5 hours digging our vehicle out of the sand using camping bowls says Dr Page who sent the photo Thankfully we had the bowls as there wasn t a shovel in the vehicle and we hadn t seen another vehicle on this particular road for days 2010 August 27 Image of the Week This picture captures the stellar tradition of great men leading Traber 2 as RAs says Ryan Buchanan 11 who sent this week s image Dr Ryken joins a collection of students from years past and present who currently live in the area It was a historic moment for all individuals involved and gave Dr Ryken an opportunity for a different kind of photo shoot Adds Ryan Dr Ryken 88 Grant Burns 06 Mark Cragg 08 Lee McComb 09 Ryan Buchanan 11 and Kirk Kroeger 12 are all pictured here Dr Ryken is holding a t shirt inspired by his presidency The t shirt exclaims Traber 2 where presidents are born May the great Traber 2 legacy live on forever 2010 August 20 Image of the Week Sado Park 10 and Andres Villatoro 11 sent virtually the same image of some of the staff that worked at the B R I D G E program this past summer All of the staff members are Wheaton students or graduates Building Roads to Intellectual Diversity and Great Education B R I D G E is an intensive four week residential academic enrichment and leadership program that brings together first generation college bound low income or African American or Latino students from the Chicago area who are interested in preparing for admission to college wrote Sado There were 33 high school students who attended from Chicago and surrounding suburbs There were 13 current Wheaton students who worked as staff for the program as RA s Resident Assistants or TA s Teaching Assistants I worked as the RD Residence Director Sado added This picture was taken during the second week of the program as students and staff became more comfortable and open with each other It was also when things got more challenging and demanding for all of us This program has impacted me to understand that even if I cannot change the world if I can change the world of an individual that is a sufficient reason for me to keep loving my neighbors Andres noted B R I D G E was an incredible opportunity to serve the Chicago community as we saw students lives being completely changed The staff was incredibly blessed by the students as we became part of a tight community working for the same goal It was an experience we will never forget 2010 August 13 Image of the Week Professor Read Schuchardt sent in a photo taken June 20 of the inaugural Media Reformation and Modernity Tour arriving under the big clock in Zurich Switzerland A group of 17 students led by Professor Schuchardt Communication and Professor Leroy Huizenga Biblical and Theological Studies studied the impact of clocks and printing presses on medieval theology and culture According to Dr Schuchardt shortly after this photo was taken the group attended the Grossmünster the Zurich church where Huldrych Zwingli preached the Reformation in Switzerland Students were able to worship in Zwingli s Calvin s and Luther s churches on the trip 2010 August 6 Image of the Week This is a photo of the Iron Sharpens Iron Trip sponsored by the Hastert Center at the home of Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov writes Juliana Wilhoit 11 He graciously opened his home to us and talked with us for over an hour and a half about politics and how the government works in Macedonia Juliana adds This was a memorable day for our group as we also went to the U S Embassy for the July 4th celebration and got a special tour of the Parliament and met with a deputy Prime Minister 2010 July 30 Image of the Week Several departments have begun moving into the new science center and there is quite a bit of interest regarding what s going on in the spectacular new edifice Perhaps even the bugs on campus are curious a bee was poking around the lens of the science center webcam when transitions began in mid July and staff member Lucy Solórzano caught a snapshot of it 2010 July 23 Image of the Week This weekend I attended Yoido Full Gospel Church in Seoul writes Chris Small 11 who is living in Seoul South Korea for the summer visiting his sister and brother in law and teaching English to students at a Korean elementary school Yoido is affiliated with the Assemblies of God Church and is considered to be the largest church in the world says Chris They report to have 830 000 members at the church Yoido has 11 services during the week and they also hold daily prayer services These prayer services are held from 11 00 PM to 4 00 AM They also hold morning services Mondays through Saturdays These services are at 5 00 AM and 7 00 It has been amazing to see the dedication to prayer among my Christian brothers and sisters in South Korea 2010 July 16 Image of the Week Calling all Wheaton grads at 12 noon today was the subject of a message from Torrey Olsen 77 Director of Christian Engagement for World Vision a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice I was in our D C office yesterday made an announcement to Wheaton College grads in the in early June noting The greenhouse at the Physical Plant is in full bloom Ken Masselink grows almost all the flowers planted on campus from seed It s an amazing and beautiful process 2010 July 2 Image of the Week Here s a photo of our son Jonathan Heidengren a 2010 graduate who is on the Wheaton in the Holylands study program right now writes Blanche Heidengren 81 who sent this week s image in early June This picture was taken earlier this week of him standing on the Mount of Olives with the city of Jerusalem behind him He is having a very precious time studying and taking day trips all over the country My husband John and I got to go on the Wheaton in the Holylands study trips back when we were students in 1979 me and 1980 him adds Blanche This will be a blessing in his ministry for years to come We had been planning this women s basketball reunion since February wrote Claire Glass 08 who sent a photo from the June weekend spent in Sawyer Michigan with her former teammates Over the weekend we spent time catching up on each others lives but in reality there had been no change in how close we were and the fellowship and fun we used to have while at Wheaton still ran strong said Claire All of these women would say that we were more than just teammates playing basketball We became family and shared many highs and lows together Even though we spread out over the nation after graduating there has always been someone who s been available to talk to or willing to pray for you I know it s true for many of us that our experience at Wheaton and on the women s basketball Africa We have been here in Dakar Senegal for one week and return tonight to Wheaton noted Gary when he sent the picture in mid May Steve is getting independent study credit and I m writing an MA thesis on the Urbanization of Senegal for my degree at the University of Chicago 2010 June 4 Image of the Week This picture was taken at the end of our Stairwell Fun Day the last Saturday of the semester wrote Catherine Queen 11 who sent this image in mid May The sixteen of us one not pictured because he is in Hungary lived together in Terrace 1051 C this past year The community has been such a blessing and encouragement to me there is always someone there to laugh or cry with It has not always been perfect but God has used our fragility to give us a more complete picture of what a Christ like community is supposed to look like Five of us are not going to be here next semester HNGR Wheaton in Chicago and studying abroad but we know that when we return to campus we will be welcomed back by a loving and gracious community These people have characterized my Wheaton experience I will miss them so much next semester but I trust that God will continue to prove Himself faithful through our from the speech given by Dr John Ortberg 79 at the undergraduate ceremony and the presentation of the Senior Class Gift One of Wheaton s longest standing traditions is the Senior Class Gift says staff member Michael Adzovic Every year a committee of seniors meets and selects a gift to give back to the College The committee then encourages their fellow seniors to support the gift before it is presented at Commencement Michael adds This year s gift also had a special twist with this being Dr Litfin s last year the committee wanted to honor Dr Litfin with their gift to the science center and Heather Crockett 12 sent this photo of the team taken after the April 24 awards ceremony This season has been one that definitely unified the team Heather said Many on the team are new players and we weeks ago to send off Galen Welsch center for the Peace Corps to Morocco writes Justin Nanfelt who sent in this week s image We all flew into Colorado Springs from all corners of the country ranging from Los Angeles to Ohio to Georgia to Portland others as well just so we could all be together as a group and support Galen as he begins his next phase of life beyond Wheaton says Justin It was really encouraging to be with one another again and hear about all of the exciting things each person had done over the past year since graduating It truly reaffirmed that the friendships made at Dry Bones a work of art in the Timothy Botts exhibit currently on display at the Billy Graham Center Museum provides our image for the week spanning Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday The exhibit Bound for Glory New Work by Timothy Botts is a collection of more than 30 works of art inspired by African American spirituals On the first day of the week very early in the morning the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb They found the stone rolled away from the tomb but when they entered they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus While they were wondering about this suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground but the men said to them Why do you look for the living Grant Roszkowiak 09 who moved to Haiti last year to serve with Northwest Haiti Christian Mission in St Louis du Nord I have been here since June of 2009 and Michael was stationed in Haiti on January
