    Menu Office of Communications Services Style Guides News Releases Campus Events Calendar The Rock For the Media Emergency Information You are here Home Office of Communications Services Services On 12 May 2013 By admin 0 Comments The Office of Communications is readily available to assist all faculty offices and departments of Whittier College as well as with select student class projects and specific needs Our services include the following Editorial Support Our staff is experienced in the prodcution of brochures programs and other promotional materials and can provide assistance in content development proofing and design review as well as guidance in working with print and design vendors budgeting and the print production process Media Outreach From drafting media advisories and press releases to aiding in the development of editorials and letters to the editor story pitching media coaching and proactively recommending faculty as expert commentary or background resources for journalists our staff is ready to support you in building relationships with the media Web Services Training and instruction is available on how to maintain and update Whittier s website using the content management system as well as webpage website creation and assistance for special conferences or symposia faculty interested in creating their own web presence for teaching purposes or student organizations seeking guidance and instruction The web manager is also available for classroom presentations on utilizing the power of the Internet and accessing reputable resources via the World Wide Web College Event Publicity Promotion Recommendations and guidance available for event support from campus to media communication and procedures Please note not all events require similar promotional methods recommendations will be given on a case by case basis A press release how to document is also available for interested students Photography The office works with a number of professional photographers available

    About Academics News Events Athletics Giving Alumni In This Section News Events Mobile Menu Office of Communications News Releases Campus Events Calendar The Rock For the Media Emergency Information You are here Home News Baseball Great James Mudcat Grant to Receive Honorary Degree from Whittier College Baseball Great James Mudcat Grant to Receive Honorary Degree from Whittier College On 5 Jan 2016 By pzurita 0 Comments Tuesday January 5 2016 James Mudcat Grant former top Major League Baseball pitcher and advocate for the history of African Americans in baseball will receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Whittier College on Monday February 8 The event will take place at 7 30 p m at the Ruth B Shannon Center for the Performing Arts located at 6760 Painter Ave Whittier CA 90608 This ceremony will precede other daytime events and will the kick off the College s celebration of Black History Month Born in 1935 Grant overcame segregation and discrimination on his journey to become a top pitcher in the American League He won more than 20 games in one season and was been named to All Star Team twice Grant played for the Cleveland Indians the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Oakland Athletics and was been awarded the key to the city in Cleveland Ohio Grant was selected for this honorary doctorate not only for his athletic achievements but also for his dedication to researching and advocating the history of African Americans in baseball Since his retirement he has worked to ensure that the accomplishments of early black players are remembered in history In 2006 he released his book The Black Aces Baseball s Only Black Twenty Game Winners featuring chapters on other black pitchers who have won 20 games in one season and Negro League players who may
