    law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School a Master of Arts Degree in History from the University of Wisconsin Madison and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from St Olaf College with majors in History and Political Science Since joining the faculty at UW he has been actively involved in a variety of planning related projects at all levels of governance campus neighborhood city county and state and with non governmental organizations He currently serves as Vice President for Chapter Affairs for the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Planning Association He was recently appointed by the Mayor of the City of Madison to serve on the steering committing overseeing the preparation of the neighborhood plan for the University Hill Farms neighborhood He served on the City of Madison Plan Commission for 4 1 2 years where he was involved with the development of the City of Madison s first comprehensive plan under Wisconsin s 1999 comprehensive planning law and other initiatives He was appointed by the Town Board for the Town of Dunn to serve on the first Land Trust Commission overseeing the initial implementation of the Town s purchase of agricultural conservation easements program He also served on the steering committee overseeing the development of Dane County s first comprehensive plan under Wisconsin s 1999 comprehensive planning law He was also appointed by the Dane County Board of Supervisors to Chair the North Mendota Parkway Advisory Committee to study transportation options related to a controversial proposed North Beltline around the northern part of the Madison area and was subsequently appointed chair of the North Mendota Parkway Implementation Oversight Committee to oversee the carrying out of the study s recommendations At UW Professor Ohm has served as Chair of the Campus Transportation Committee and on the Campus Planning Committee

    and public rights in property In his work he argues that these institutions are often a stage in which we act out social debate about more fundamental social values such as liberty democracy citizenship and empowerment Professor Jacobs received his graduate degrees from Cornell University Ph D 1984 He has won awards and recognition for his research and teaching from Cornell University in 1980 and 1982 the Journal of the American Planning Association in 1988 and 2000 the Wisconsin Student Association 1991 and 1992 and the University of Wisconsin Teaching Academy 1994 In 1998 he served as the Chester Dean Visiting Professor at the School of Architecture and Urban Design University of Kansas As part of a new initiative by the Fulbright Scholar Program in 2002 he was selected as a Fulbright Senior Specialist In 2005 he was selected to serve as a Planning and Development Fellow of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy for his research on private property and planning issues in western Europe In the spring of 2006 he was recipient of an Individual Residency from the Rockefeller Foundation at their Bellagio Italy Study Center for continued work on this research In 2008 Prof Jacobs was knighted by the French government he was honored with the receipt of an L Ordre des Palmes Académiques Order of the Academic Palms rank Chevalier Knight In recognition of his overall body of work Prof Jacobs was been selected to be included in the 64th 2010 edition of Who s Who in America Since 2009 Prof Jacobs has been invited to deliver keynote addresses in Tunisia to the 2009 international training conference Gouvernance Foncière et Usages des Ressources Naturelles Germany to the 2010 annual meeting of the International Academic Association on Planning Law and Property Rights at the University of Florida

    and suburban neighborhoods LaGro s graduate degrees from Cornell University are in landscape architecture M L A 1982 and natural resource policy and planning Ph D 1991 Prior to earning his doctorate he worked in private practice as a professional land planner A licensed landscape architect in Florida and New York his project experience includes medical and educational facilities in the Northeastern United States multi family housing projects in Switzerland and planned communities in the Southeastern U S and the Caribbean Professor LaGro frequently teaches service learning courses including Site Planning URPL 601 and Urban Design Theory and Practice URPL 606 He also teaches an undergraduate design studio in the Department of Landscape Architecture His recent book Site Analysis A Contextual Approach to Sustainable Site Planning and Design published by John Wiley Sons was selected by Planetizen an online planning and development network as one of the top planning books in 2008 Professor LaGro was Chair of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning from 2002 to 2008 He also served on the U S Region s Executive Committee of the International Association of Landscape Ecology www landscape ecology org and on working groups assembled by The Heinz Center for
