  • Call for Nominations (Hilldale Awards & Hilldale Lectures) | Secretary of the Faculty
    Humanities Divisional Committee Biological Sciences Divisional Committee Physical Sciences Divisional Committee and Social Studies Divisional Committee 2015 2016 Hilldale Awards Given annually since 1986 1987 the Hilldale Awards recognize distinguished contributions to teaching research and service One faculty member is honored in each division Each recipient receives a 7 500 cash prize and is recognized at a spring meeting of the Faculty Senate Nominations are accepted from department chairs If a center institute or other unit wishes to advance a nomination it should coordinate the nomination with an academic department Each department may nominate one tenured faculty member Neither emeritus faculty nor university officials at the rank of associate dean or above are eligible for the award A candidate who is not selected will be considered for two additional award cycles unless the nominating department chooses to nominate another faculty member for the award Nominations should be addressed to the appropriate divisional committee a nd sent to Michaela Aust michaela aust wisc edu by Tuesday 15 December Each nomination letter should be a single pdf and should present the candidate s contributions to teaching research and service include the candidate s full curriculum vitae Biological Sciences only append up to two external letters of support 2016 2017 Hilldale Lecture Series Since 1973 1974 the Hilldale Lecture Series has showcased distinguished thinkers whose contributions to contemporary culture and science have received international recognition and acclaim One lecture is funded annually in each division All lectures are free and open to the public Successful nominations receive support from the Hilldale Fund of 5 000 up to 4 000 of which may be allocated to the speaker s honorarium with the remainder covering allowable expenses Please note that UW Madison s policy on air travel has changed Effective 5 January 2015 all airfare

    Sciences Divisional Committee Graduate Faculty Executive Committee Committee on Committees Committee on Honorary Degrees Kemper K Knapp Bequest Committee University Lectures Committee Self nominations are accepted and encouraged Each committee is limited to one faculty member per department Please send nominations to divisional secfac wisc edu by Friday 15 January Nominations should include the nominee s name and department confirm the nominee s willingness to serve if elected or appointed and identify the committee for which you are making the nomination Information about each committee follows Biological Sciences Divisional Committee The Biological Sciences Divisional Committee the executive committee of the Faculty Division of Biological Sciences advises deans and directors about appointments and promotions to tenure and recommendations to use honorific modified professorial titles names Hilldale Award recipients and Hilldale Lecture Series speakers and makes appointments to standing and ad hoc committees Meetings are held during the academic year on Fridays beginning at 1 30 p m committee members are asked to hold the full afternoon in 128 Bascom Hall 2016 2017 Meeting Dates 9 September 7 October 4 November 2 December 20 January 10 February 3 March 7 April 5 May Four tenured faculty member s will be elected to serve three year terms Divisional committee members from the Departments of Biomedical Engineering Entomology Neurological Surgery Neuroscience Oncology and Ophthalmology Visual Sciences will continue their service in the 2016 2017 academic year Faculty from these departments are not eligible for nomination Graduate Faculty Executive Committee The Graduate Faculty Executive Committee GFEC exercises the powers of the graduate faculty with respect to establishing reviewing and modifying graduate degree programs setting standards for admission and degree requirements evaluating and recommending actions on student appeals other graduate education policy issues Meetings are held during the academic year typically on the second Friday of each month from 1 30 p m to 3 30 p m One faculty member will be elected to serve a four year term GFEC members from the Departments of Genetics Neuroscience and Oncology will continue their service in the 2016 2017 academic year Faculty from these departments are not eligible for nomination Committee on Committees The Committee on Committees appoints committee members to major campus committees and seeks candidates for election to certain elected campus committees e g Committee on Faculty Rights Responsibilities University Committee The committee meets several times in the fall to select nominees for elected committees and once or twice in the spring to appoint committee members The divisional committee will appoint one nominated faculty member to serve a four year term A list of current members is posted in the Committees directory Committee on Honorary Degrees The Committee on Honorary Degrees nominates candidates for honorary degrees from the university upon the recommendation of a department school or college The committee typically meets once each semester The divisional committee will appoint one nominated faculty member to serve a four year term Committee members from the Departments of Biomedical Engineering Pathobiological Sciences and Population Health Sciences will
